Why I use an Infrared Sauna on a regular basis

Today’s blog comes from our Infrared Sauna enthusiast, Alan, who we absolutely adore.  Alan tries to get in twice weekly sauna sessions to improve his quality of life.  In turn, him visiting our space on a regular basis improves the quality of ours.  THANK YOU ALAN!

As a biomedical researcher, I have read several clinical trials in which infrared saunas produced impressive results for patients. I thought, “I should try that,” and I finally have.

I first booked The Floatation Centre infrared sauna mostly because their booking process seemed much easier than everywhere else and involved meditating cats.

My lucky break!

The people there are wonderful, friendly, kind, and always helpful. The whole place is infused with a charming whimsy that makes you smile even if your day has been too long. The Floatation Centre’s infrared sauna is a high quality Sunlighten model. It is always utterly clean.

I try to book the sauna twice a week, because I know from reading medical trials that the sauna’s effects are cumulative and build over time. After I have been in the sauna, my joints feel smoother. I have a medical condition that the infrared sauna has been tested for, and I have personally found it produces the reported good results.

Japanese doctors pioneered studying the medicinal effects of infrared saunas over 20 years ago. Clinical trials have shown that infrared saunas improve exercise recovery (link) and can help heart patients heal (link). Infrared saunas have been shown to decrease fatigue and improve general well being for chronic fatigue syndrome patients (link). Fibromyalgia patients who used an infrared sauna saw a significant reduction in daily pain and an increase in their overall health (link). Infrared saunas have also been found to decrease pain and stiffness for rheumatoid arthritis patients (link).

The infrared energy penetrates your body causing vasodilation (opens up your blood vessels) (link); it helps clear out toxins and waste (link); and it reduces oxidative stress (link).

I am pleased to have been asked to write about both the scientific research into the benefits of infrared saunas and my personal experience at The Flotation Centre. They provide a useful and healing service at a very reasonable price ($25 per session in 5 pack), and they do so in a warm and inviting way.

They help. And that’s important.
