I have been following The Floatation Centre for quite some time before I applied to be an ambassador, and I can promise it’s exactly what I dreamed of. I’ve always been someone who feels a strong connection to water (both through memories of my mother and being a Pisces) but this was on a very different level. The space is so incredibly inclusive and queer safe and I was truly able to take time for myself both physically and mentally, which is rare for me to do. My monthly float became my anchor to reflect and look inward during a very busy time to analyze and assess what I really need. From the moment I walked through the front doors I knew it was a space for me to be safe to explore whatever feelings I needed, while also helping my body recover from the strenuous nature of being a performer and theatre arts teacher.
Admittedly, I was very hesitant to start floating because of the silence. I am not a quiet person and with my adhd I find it hard not to have any sound to anchor me into something. The first float was hard to get used to but gradually over time I really began to embrace the thoughts that were racing and by allowing the silence of the world around me to happen, I was able to process those thoughts a lot more clearly. Sometimes it was simply carving out the time for me to finally cry about something, and sometimes it was realizing my work and person life balance is not working the way I need it to. But either way the quiet was able to help me address whatever it was that I couldn’t. I do find myself still yearning for even a bit of auditory stimulation, but I know that I would likely just float and get the physical benefits of floating and not the whole experience.
Now the atmosphere is really my favorite part of The Floatation Centre. From the moment you walk in you know these people and this place is here to help relax and take care of you. I really enjoyed Jenelle’s Triple Threat, which included a sauna, massage and float and I can’t hype it up enough! I absolutely felt the best in years after a massage and float topped off by a relaxing sauna in what felt like a fairy dreamhouse! Then finishing it off with a nice shower and cold plunge to rejuvenate. It’s a little spa experience you can’t find too easily and is super private. The space has so much more to offer in terms of health practitioners and the entire centre is dedicated to your health and wellness.
Overall, as you can see I am a BIG fan of the float practice, and cannot think of a better experience that doing it with the folks at The Floatation Centre. If you haven’t tried it yet, DO IT! <3
