Beating Jet Lag with Floating: The ultimate reset button when travelling!

Thank you to our amazing Float Ambassador, Ashley, for sharing her experience of how floating has helped ease her jetlag! WE LOVE YOU ASHLEY!

Over the past year I’ve been lucky enough to be able to travel more often than I normally have in the past. Most of my destinations have been in time zones that are drastically
different from my own. One thing I know that everyone can agree on is this, jet lag is the worst. This can ultimately make or break your mood, energy, and overall attitude while
visiting far away destinations. So let’s talk about how floatation therapy can be a magical reset button for travel.

Floating is such a calming and restorative practice it’s no wonder that taking a break to catch some rest in the tank can really make you feel brand new after flying. I personally have floated when coming back home after a trip and I feel like this is the time when jet lag affects me the most. I try my best to get into the Floatation Centre within 24-48 hours after coming home. This seems like the most optimal time frame ( for me personally) to try to recalibrate your body. Any longer and the fatigue, moodiness and the overall down from coming back to
your normal day to day routine can be quite stressful on your body and mind.

So why would floatation therapy help with jet lag?

When you float, your body enters a deeply relaxed state. Muscles release tension, your spine decompresses, and stress hormones decrease. At the same time, your brain may shift
into a meditative state, which helps promote mental clarity and calmness. It’s like hitting pause on the chaos of everyday life and giving your nervous system a chance to reboot. I’m sure you’ve tried just taking a nap, or going to bed earlier to try to fix the issue of jet lag before, I don’t know about you but I often still feel groggy and somewhat on edge sometimes after a nap. It’s a quick fix, but floating can offer so much more in terms of actual deep rest.

Jet lag is caused by the disruption of your circadian rhythm, when jumping time zones while travelling your body gets confused. Jet lag can cause more issues than just finding it hard to sleep. It can also leave you feeling, mental fog, irritability and sometimes even issues with your digestion. Another reason why floating for jet lag can be beneficial is because the water you float in is rich in magnesium, which can help regulate and improve your sleep quality. Floatation therapy removes sensory input almost entirely, which allows your brain to take a much-needed break from processing the world around you. Just one hour in the tank can feel like several hours of restorative sleep, ultimately much more rest than a simple nap could ever offer. Your body will be thanking you for choosing the route of floating to help recenter yourself, as the effects last much longer than you think. Since floating is sensory deprivation, with very limited light, it can really help you trick your brain into thinking you went to bed for the evening and have just woken up again, new day, new sense of time frame, and a refreshed you.

So next time you’re flying and are absolutely dreading the thought of the post flight jet lag, consider flotation therapy. It might just be the cure your travel weary soul has been searching for.
