I’ll admit, I have always been a little “different”. Taking alternative and holistic routes to maintaining and improving my health have been priorities in my life since I was a child. What can I say, I learned it from my mama! I grew up influenced by many opportunities and educational backgrounds including the idea of crystal healing, homeopathy, acupuncture, and seeing a naturopathic doctor regularly for checkups. This being said, I understand the need for modern medicine and believe that holistic/alternative fields can hold hands with today’s medical advancements. I would never deny myself or a client the recommendation for conventional care but I always like to flex my holistic healing muscle first. As a young adult, it was navigating the healthcare system that pushed me toward a career in holistic wellness, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
I became a Registered Holistic Nutritional Consultant (RHN) in 2016, and a Reiki healer not long after that (I actually just received my Reiki Masters this past January! Yay!). It was never my intention to go back to school after completing my undergrad, but the years I spent in and out of doctor’s offices as well as the years of illness prior to this gave me the push I needed to get my butt in gear, make some changes, and start something new. You see, I had been diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa in 2012. I had struggled with the illness for about a decade before my diagnosis and have maintained recovery since roughly 2015. It was a combination of conventional and holistic healing methods that have gotten me to where I am today (not to mention countless years of support from family members, friends, and partners). I remember sitting on a swing at a playground on a beach near my home in Cape Breton. I was yearning for a change, and I wanted to help people who were struggling with the situation I was surviving. It was that moment, looking out at a stormy ocean, that I decided to become a healer. I know, it sounds super cliche, but it’s the truth!
So, I packed up my life and moved to Halifax, attended nutrition school, and became an RHN with a focus on plant based diets, helping people make peace with food and say goodbye to their scales, and supporting folks with eating disorders. My Reiki training was the next step in this process. You see, I do what I do for a very simple reason – I believe that every person has the right to being healthy. They deserve to experience optimal health and happiness in their mind, body and spirit. As most of you probably know, the mind can be a busy, crowded, cluttered and messy space. I help people take a step back from their everyday and help them take control of their health and their futures. It’s an extremely rewarding experience and I honestly couldn’t imagine pursuing any other career path.
Today, Reiki and energy healing are my top focuses. Aligning and working with my own energy centers during my eating disorder recovery was pivotal, and energy work can benefit you no matter what sort of issues you are going through! The simplistic beauty of such an ancient practice truly is amazing, and it is my goal to bring this practice to every person I possibly can. I feel truly blessed to be able to practice Reiki healing in this city, and I am so excited for my opportunities and future with The Floatation Centre. In a nutshell, I work with the chakra system, balancing and clearing energies from karmic sources from this life (or past lives, if you’re into that sorta’ thing) that have caused blockages in the energy field, or “storm clouds” as I like to call them. These storm clouds can affect you in mental, emotional, and physical ways. Clearing and balancing this energy can bring peace, relaxation and enlightenment. With this being said, I’m sure you’re already thinking of how beneficial combining Reiki with a float would be!
I’m really excited to be a part of The Floatation Centre family (I really, really am! You can’t see me, but I’m jumping up and down right now because I’m so pumped!). I also can’t wait to meet your lovely faces. I love talking about Reiki healing and food. I am also very open about my eating disorder recovery. Besides that, I am a musician, foodie and outdoors lover. I’m constantly concocting new recipes in my brain and sharing them with the people I love…So if you’re lucky I may have some goodies to share with you when you come in! I look forward to seeing you, and until then, may the universe present you with the opportunities you manifest, and may you find peace in your body, mind and spirit.
