Special Services
Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
Manual Lymph Drainage is a light, gentle, rhythmic type of massage that has many diverse applications. It is an effective tool for addressing migraines, sports injuries, scar tissue, sinus congestion, mood regulation, acne, pre- and post-operative care, arthritis, and prenatal water retention to name some appropriate uses.
MLD helps the body recover faster by stimulating lymph flow and drainage mechanisms, assisting the body in the removal of inflammatory products in the tissue, and supporting the immune function of the lymph nodes. It is also effective at breaking the pain cycle, as its gentle nature creates the ideal conditions for the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) to kick in.
Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT)
Combined Decongestive Therapy involves additional care beyond just Manual Lymph Drainage for clients. Combined Decongestive Therapy is appropriate for patients with more complex and chronic conditions, including lymphedema, lipedema, and venous insufficiency.
A Brief History of CDT and MLD
The Vodder method of Manual Lymph Drainage is the highest standard of training for this type of massage, and therapists must undergo rigorous training on a regular basis to maintain their designation.
Designed in the 1930’s by French physicians, Dr. Emil & Dr. Estrid Vodder, the technique works directly on the lymph nodes. Consideration for the lymph nodes and their contribution to the overall health of the individual was greatly underestimated prior to the Vodders. Today, manual lymph drainage is the most thoroughly researched massage therapy technique.
Manual Lymph Drainage and Combined Decongestive Therapy is billable under Massage Therapy to private insurance providers. Book your first appointment with Taylor today!
